Security Guard Training
In 2023 Maryland General Assembly amended the Business Occupations and Professions Article § 19–402, to require an individual seeking certification as a security guard effective June 1, 2024 must satisfactorily complete 12 hours of initial security training that is approved by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission under §19-412, unless they have been employed in the 3 years immediately preceding their application. They also amended Business Occupations and Professions Article § 19–404 for renewal of security guard certification effective June 1, 2024 an applicant must satisfactorily complete 8 hours of continuing security training that is approved by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission under §19-412 of the subtitle and submit the supporting documentation that demonstrates completion of the training to the Secretary of State Police.
The Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions' Certification Unit is approving these Training Providers and Programs to be taught to meet this mandate.
