The
Maryland Correctional Administrators Association presents its annual scholarship
programs for professional development grant and college: The Professional Development Grant
is to be used for programs such as training
programs, professional seminars. It is not to be used to pursue advanced education degrees
(undergraduate or post graduate). The Association established this
program in an effort to assist Corrections Professionals throughout the State
of The
Association established the Memorial College Scholarship
Program in an effort to encourage and assist college level students
in pursing a career in the field of Corrections or closely related Criminal
Justice Professions. Funds awarded
from this program are paid directly to the
Institution and may be used for tuition, books, fees and registration
only. For graduating High School
Seniors there is an additional requirement.
Along with the completed Scholarship Application Form
these applicants must submit three letters of recommendation: two (2) from Academic Instructors and one
(1) from a High School Counselor. All letters should include the name,
address and phone numbers of the writer. The
original application along with seven (7) copies must be
received (postmarked) by April 16, 2009. All applications must be
signed by an MCAA sponsoring member to be valid. If you wish to be notified that your application package has been
received, please enclose a self-addressed stamped postcard with you

will be mailed to recipients by May 14, 2009.
When
filling out this application be as complete and thorough as possible. If at any time there are any questions
concerning the application process or if additional information is required,

grant funds are requested has promotional/information literature or
brochures, please include one copy of each. It is
important for all applicants to know that the Maryland Correctional

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS As
with many scholarship and grant application processes, there are always several
frequently asked questions. Q. How do I find out who’s
an MCAA member? A.
You may check
with the managing authority (e.g. warden, assistant warden, facility
administrator, detention center warden/ superintendent) of your institution,
or your agency head. Only a current member may sign as a sponsor. Current
members have been issued membership cards. Q.
How important is it to have a
current member sponsor me? A.
It is part of the verification process
with regard to whether you are an eligible candidate. Without the sponsor
signature, or if the sponsor is not current, your application will not be
considered. Q. Which application do I complete?
A. If you are applying for advanced education assistance, complete the scholarship application. If you are seeking
funds for professional development in specific areas or skill and trade
enhancement, complete the grant application. Q.
What happens if I don’t submit all the materials required? A.
Your application will not be considered if not submitted as required. Applications without complete information,
the appropriate signatures or copies will not be considered. Q.
How much money is
awarded? A. Currently the association seeks to award
as many scholarships and grants possible. Q.
How will I know if I’ve been awarded a scholarship or grant? A.
You will receive written
notification. Q. Can
I change schools once my scholarship application has been
submitted? A. No, if you’ve applied to several
schools list all those applied to on your application. Q.
If I received an award previously
do I automatically receive an award during the next application period? A.
No, you must continue to apply
during each award period and your application must meet the requirements for
consideration. Your application will be considered
with all others received. Q.
Who makes the final decision
about the scholarship or professional grant award? A. The Memorial Scholarship Committee The pursuing advanced education and
professional development in the field(s) of and related to criminal justice. The
awarding of scholarships and professional development grants are not based upon,
race, creed, religion, or gender. |
