Assistant Director

Responsibilities:


The Assistant Director (AD) is responsible to the Executive Director for the operations of the agency to include security, treatment and maintenance of the facility. The AD directs the supervision of the inmate population through the treatment and security staff in accordance with applicable directives.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Criminal Justice or related field is required. Minimum five (5) years experience working in Criminal Justice or with individuals exhibiting anti-social behaviors. The AD must have excellent verbal, writing and computer skills. Minimum five (5) years experience in administration and management and valid Maryland Driver’s License are required with no points. The AD must be a U. S. citizen or legal resident.

Job Description
The duties of the Assistant Director are as follows:
  • Supervise the treatment and security staff and ensure that the functions of each component are implemented according to established procedures. Supervise an assigned caseload of inmates and serves as counselor. Conduct in-service training for all staff that has treatment and security responsibilities. Supervise and direct the administration of disciplinary actions for in-house infractions.
  • Serve as the Hearing Officer for in-house violations.
  • Serve as the Contraband, Key Control and Property Officers for the agency.
  • Interview prospective applicants for vacancies in treatment and security and recommend to the Executive Director, those persons who most closely meet the requirements.
  • Perform annual evaluations of treatment and security staff for review by the Executive Director. The evaluations shall be discussed with employees related to correcting any deficiencies that may be noted.
  • Ensure that the procedures for substance abuse monitoring are properly administered by trained security and treatment staff. Ensure that the urine samples are tested by a certified laboratory in a timely manner.
  • Develop screening criteria, in cooperation with the Division of Parole and Probation, for inmate assignments to this facility. Review all screening decisions of DPP to ensure that the appropriate candidates are assigned.
  • Establish liaisons with representatives of various institutions within the DOC who provide assistance in screening, case management, transfers, training and other activities related to the operations of this facility.
  • Meet on a monthly basis with inmates to review agency rules and regulations and to gain their input and suggestions for improving services. Direct the orientation of new inmates and ensure that the inmate population is aware of all related procedures.
  • Attend scheduled workshops, seminars, staff meetings and other meetings as assigned by the Executive Director. The AD must be certified by the Maryland Police & Correctional Training Commission.
