Hello to everyone. After several months of getting acclimated to the position of Homeland
Security Coordinator I’m finally able to stop for a moment and jot down a few words. I just want
everyone to know that I am on the job and working to make sure that Maryland Law Enforcement
is getting the Homeland Security training that it needs for the safety of the citizens of Maryland. If

The Office of State and Local Training of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC),
a component of the Department of Homeland Security, offers low cost and no cost training to
state, local, campus, and tribal law enforcement officers. Training is available by request through
the FLETC Website.
01/02/08 Federal Training Requirements
FEMA recently released updated information/guidelines for NIMS training. Of most importance to
many of us are the following:
- Elimination of “tiering” systems in future NIMS compliance requirements.
- Completion of ICS 400 is now a FY09 requirement.
- There will be a “minor” delay for the release of FY08 NIMS compliance materials.

Important NIMS notification!
The previous requirement for all agencies to be ICS 300/400
compliant by this year has been changed to “recommended” to permit additional time to
complete the ICS 300/400 courses.
New Training Offerings:
1. ICS 300/400, March 11-14 – Westminster Md.
2. WMD Hazmat Evidence Collection, March 19-20 – Bethesda Md.
3. Managing Civil Actions in Threat Incidents: Protester Devices
April 28-30 – Rockville, Md.
