Community Gang Awareness and Prevention Specialist
Pay rate: $19.69 per hour - This is a full-time, contractual position without benefits.

Main function: This position is responsible for facilitating and coordinating community gang
awareness and prevention training programs for the Maryland Community Crime Prevention
Institute (MCCPI).
Work location: Sykesville, MD (southern Carroll County near Springfield Hospital Center)
Minimum qualifications:
Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Applicants may
substitute professional-administrative work experience (to include work as a law enforcement
officer) for the required education for up to four (4) years of the required education.
Experience:
Five (5) years of experience as a law enforcement officer.
Two years (2) of experience in the areas of crime prevention, community resources, and/or gang-oriented programs (These two years of specialized experience may be part of the required law enforcement officer experience referenced immediately above).
Notes:
- Candidates will also be rated in regards to what gang-related training have received and what
experience they may have delivering training.
- Candidates who do not possess the required experience as a law enforcement officer will not
be considered.
- Candidates may not “count” experience used to meet the minimum experience requirement to
also meet the minimum education requirement, or vice versa.
- Basic PC skills required. Proficiency with MS PowerPoint preferred.
Examples of duties:
- Facilitate and coordinate gang awareness and prevention training programs developed and conducted by MCCPI.
- Work with various community and law enforcement groups at the local, state, and national level to strengthen and/or develop gang awareness and prevention partnerships and programs.
- Develop lesson plans, visual aids, and handout materials for MCCPI gang awareness and prevention training/educational events as well as for use by other groups in their training events.
- Assist in the collection, compilation and dissemination of evaluative data and periodic reports.
- Perform other job duties as needed.
