New! Traffic Safety Specialist Recognition Program
The Maryland Traffic Safety Specialist (TSS) program is a statewide recognition of police officers who have attained distinctive levels of experience, training and proficiency in Highway Safety and Traffic Enforcement methods and procedures. The TSS designation is awarded by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions (MPCTC), and is available to all police officers, deputy sheriffs and state troopers from all Maryland Law Enforcement agencies whose agencies have agreed to participate in the program.
TSS Designations are awarded at three levels: TSS-I, TSS-II, and TSS-III. Achieving the higher designations requires additional training, job performance, development of officer skills and development of the recipient’s proficiency as a traffic enforcement officer.

Preparing to Assume a Management Position
Recent studies show that nearly half the population is cynical, less than 10
percent of citizens think members of Congress are honest, and two thirds
of the work-force say they have little trust in top management. This is
pretty tough feedback since over 15 years of research has shown that
credibility is the foundation of leadership. This course surveys the vast
management landscape and then focuses in on the most critical issues that
managers and leaders face daily. The plain fact is that management is a lot
about influence. This course is an excellent primer for those who wish to
aspire into that higher level of efficient worker, known as management. It
will force you to look inward and determine what you need to do to
advance forward and upward.

intending to send. The class will also look at generation differences as it

Women’s Series - Delegating Down the Chain of Command
In the 21st Century workplace, task assessment and completion will
require the manager to delegate projects into his/her work groups in order
to achieve the ever-increasing workloads. Due to the severe talent drought
presently experienced throughout the corporate environment, multi-
tasking is an ongoing event, particularly in state and county public service.
The ability to delegate work with specific teams while remaining within
the chain of command, will result in a more focused atmosphere and
structured result. Delegation can mean the difference between success and
failure.

Strategic Planning
It is difficult for managers in any sized operation to escape the day-to-day hectic
pace, since they are generally in the thick of operations and not insulated by
support staffs. The approach presented in this course is very pragmatic, and
should enable any organization or agency to address the critical components of
strategic planning, while avoiding wasted effort in the plan makeup that often
accompanies such efforts. This course places a priority on closure in the
strategic
decision making process and facilitates follow-up to help ensure that the planning
effort is not a wasted annual exercise without closure. It will assist in setting a
much clearer direction for the future.
